You know those dogs that aren’t quite like other dogs? The ones with malformed or missing limbs, or mangled faces, or no eyes? You see those dogs, be it in real life or on the Internet, and you know some shit went down somewhere. Birth defect, injury, abuse, something went very wrong at some point in each of those dog’s lives and rendered them different dogs than nature intended.
The Guy and I needed to obtain a copy of a document recorded in San Diego County. We could have requested it online, but the turnaround time stated on the county website for documents to be mailed is “several weeks”, a timeframe as impractical as it is ambiguous. So we decided to throw the dogs in the car and take a quick roadtrip; drive down Sunday, visit the recorder’s office Monday morning, spend the rest of the day enjoying a bit of San Diego, and drive home Tuesday.
As many of you are aware, November 15 is National Bundt Day. This is the third year I’ve observed the day by baking an original recipe Bundt cake, and the third year that there has been a unique emotional circumstance attached to the event. In 2011, I was on the verge of buying a house and, as I baked my Tiramisu Bundt in my tiny apartment kitchen, I knew it would be one of the last things I baked in the place that had been home for almost 15 years. 2012 brought the Avenging Dark Chocolate Bacon Scourge Bundt of Doom, the result of several sources of frustration and annoyance translating themselves into dessert.
This year, on November 13, I was told by a dear friend that one of the most amazing girls I have ever had the honor of knowing had passed away.
