First Love

For 2018, when trying to put together a “Valentine’s Day” shoot, I got stuck. I had red and pink and purple and hearts and flowers on the brain and no solid idea what I wanted to do with them. So I stepped back from that, said to myself “pretend this isn’t for a holiday and just think about love, what do you want to shoot?” Which brought me to my first love, which is books, which brought us to this shoot. Happy Valentine’s Day.

NOTE: Many of the books shown in this set were chosen because they have special meaning to me, sometimes because of their stories, sometimes because they were created by people I love, oftentimes both. So here are links to a few you might want to explore.

Death by Triangulation by John Oughton
The Professor and The Madman by Simon Winchester
A Pleasure Jaunt with One of the Sex Workers Who Don’t Exist in the People’s Republic of China by Tom Bradley

The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson
The Unlikely Ones by Mary Brown
There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister’s Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love Stories by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya
